    Presently the district area was formerly a part of Bhopal Preseli State and was Nizamat-e-Mashrif district. The naming of the district is based on the ancient fort located at Raisen, the district headquarters. After independence, Raisen came into existence as a separate revenue district on May 5, 1950. Raisen district became a “civil district” in the year 1978. Shri AC Dalani was appointed District Judge of Raisen Civil District vide Honorable Madhya Pradesh High Court’s order number 5674/PF Jabalpur dated 18/09/1978.

    According to the information received from Mr. Kailash Narayan Chaturvedi, Senior Advocate of Raisen District and Mr. Babulal Sahu, President of Raisen Abhivshan Association, for the first time in Raisen, a series court of Civil Judge Class-2 was started in the year 1956-57 from Berasia District, Bhopal. Subsequently, from 1968, the practice of Vyavar Nyayadhi continued in the chain court Raisen Nagar from Gauharganj. After accepting the post of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Raisen district in August, 1974, Shri KC Sabu was the first Chief Judicial Magistrate of the district. In the year 1975, the Court of Additional District Judge started in Raisan on 15/09/1975. The Court of Additional District Judge was inaugurated in the year 1975 by the Honorable Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Jabalpur, Mr. PK Tare Sahab. Before that, the series court was run by the Additional District Judge from Bhopal. She has been serving on the post of Special Court, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the year 1996 at Raisen District Headquarters.

    Presently the new building of District Court, Raisen was constructed in the year 1993-94 and was handed over in August, 1994. Before that, the Collectorate Office was established in place of the said new building, which was dismantled and a new District Court building has been constructed.

    ADR Bhavan was established by the Honorable Madhya Pradesh High Court at Raisen District Headquarters in the year 2016. On 18/06/2016, the inauguration of ADR Bhawan was done by Honorable Justice Shri JP Gupta, Honorable Portfolio Justice, Kar Kamlo of District Raisen. It is noteworthy that during the initial period of his judicial service, Honorable Justice Chief Shri JP Gupta was posted as Civil Judge Class-1 in Tehsil Wegamganj Court of Raisen district. Through mediation in the said building, the cases are being resolved smoothly by the respected lawyers of Headquarters Raisen and District Legal Services Authority, District Raisen.
